Death threat for TN legislator from Tiger supporter
A Congress legislator from Tamil Nadu on Monday received a threat to
his life, purportedly from an LTTE supporter, for his continued
opposition to the banned outfit.
K Hasan Ali, who represents the Ramanathapuram segment, received a
telephone call warning him of “consequences” if he continued with his
opposition to the LTTE, police said.
The caller, who said he was speaking from London, identified himself
as a supporter of LTTE.
Ali had written to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and President Mahinda
Rajapaksa over the Lankan issue and the caller allegedly warned him
against writing such letters in future, the sources said adding a
complaint was filed with the city police, which has referred it to the
Cyber Crime Cell.
The Congress has stepped up its opposition against the LTTE and its
supporters in the state, while the party’s workers have clashed with the
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), a known LTTE supporter, over the
matter.
