Claymore attack at Morawewa

Three Air Force personnel and four civilians were killed and six civilians injured when the LTTE triggered off a claymore mine yesterday morning targeting a tractor transporting civilians to an irrigation project in Neluwa, Morawewa.

Air Force spokesman Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara said the Tigers detonated a claymore mine targeting civilians engaged in a irrigation development project funded by the Government.

“The Tigers triggered off a road side claymore mine targeting a tractor transporting civilians from Morawewa to Magadivulwewa around 9.30 a.m,” he said.

Two Airmen and six civilians wounded in the explosion had been admitted to Trincomalee hospital.
