Milton Dharmasinghe Bulathsinhala and Kalutara corr.
A knowledge of English is of very importance in acquiring new
knowledge on technology. Information Technology, Internet, Computer
Science and various other educational fields, former Attorney General
C.R. De Silva said at Kalutara.
He was speaking at the prizes and certificates distribution ceremony
of the English course held for Dhamma Schools at the Kalutara Bodhi Main
Hall. The ceremony was organised by Bhodhimaga and the English
Professionals Association of Kalutara.
Silva also added that Bodhimaga Padanama, Kalutara Bodhi must had
been conducting a special English Course for the benefit of many rural
Dhamma Schools in the Kalutara District and the project was laudable.
It was a real encouragement for the Dhamma School students who were
really keen on learning English.
English is not an alien language, it is our second language. It is
very hard to step into the world of studies without English. So parents
should take much interest in providing knowledge of English to their
children.
The English course conducted by the Bhodhimaga Padanama for more than
five years, free of charge has been really worth appreciating and it has
been a great boom for Dhamma school students to receive a good knowledge
of English through qualified batch of English Teachers.
Parents should understand the value of this English course and
encourage their children to follow it.
General Manager, Kalutara Bodhi Trust Mahinda Malalasekara said that
the English programme conducted had made tremendous results.
Every year the number of students who received Credit and Merit
passes at the final examination had increased and number of failures had
decreased. In fact the English education given to Dhamma School students
had influenced them in GCE (O/L) results and class level assessments.
Dakshina Lanka Chief Sangha Nayaka Ven. Amugoda Somananda Thera,
President of English Language Professionals Association Ms. Parvathie
