Concerned over violence on media

US Department of State, Heads of EU Missions in Colombo and the Indian High Commission in Colombo as well as the World Bank has expressed concern over the growing incidents of violence against the media including the attack on the Sirasa TV and the assassination of Sunday Leader Lasantha Wickrematunga.

They urged the Government to hold a full, transparent investigation into these incidents.

Meanwhile, the EU Heads of Missions have noted the recent developments in the north and emphasises that they "pave the way towards a sustainable and equitable peace."

They call upon "all parties to work vigorously towards a political solution which addresses the legitimate concerns of all communities in Sri Lanka."
