Ven. Dewalapola Siridhamma Thera passes away
Ven. Dewalapola Siridhamma Thera of Vajirarama Temple, Bambalapitiya,
a pupil of late Mahanayake Ven. Palahena Varjiranana Thera passed away
at the age of 89 on December 8. Ven. Siridhamma Thera entered robes in
1953 at Vajirarama Temple, Bambalapitiya, at the age of 33. Having
practiced as an advocate for five years.
As a priest devoted to meditation, he spent most of his time
meditating at Polgasduwa, Lindula Temple, Udawattakelle Senanayakaramaya,
and lastly at Vajiraramaya. Ven. Siridhamma Thera had the privilege of
associating and sharing valuable knowledge of Buddhism with noble priest
such as the late Mahanayake Ven. Madihe Pagnnaseeha Thera, late Ven.
Kassapa Thera, late Ven. Kemindha Thera, late Ven. Narada Thera, late
Ven. Piyadhassi Thera, late Ven. Gnanaponika Thera, late Ven. Gnanaweera
Thera, Ven. Bodhi Thera, Mahanayake Amarapura Nikaya Ven. Gnanaweera
Thera and many other distinguished priests.
Ven. Siridhamma Thera is the son of late Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred
Samaratunga, brother of late Lionel Samaratunga, District Judge, late
Elen Herath Guneratne, late Dr. Bennet Randunu Samaratunga, all from
Dewalapola, brother-in-law of late Helen Halangoda and the late Wilmot
Herath Guneratne.
According to Ven. Siridhamma's wishes, the Ven. Thera's remains was
handed over to the Medical Faculty of University of Colombo, on December
8.
We greatly appreciate the assistance offered by the warden and the
staff of the Medical College.
May he attain Nibbana.
