CDN Business inaugural CSR initiative

For the first time in the annals of the Daily News Business Desk, a CSR project initiated by the Desk will get under way at Halpola Vidyalaya, Hatton, today.

The staff had painstakingly vetted the school names put forward by various sources and selected, an underprivileged school with 145 students and 20 staffers to relish the benefits of this CSR inaugural initiative.

The existing computer laboratory in the school with two trained IT teachers, does not have necessary computers since funds were not allocated. With the assistance of one of the principal sponsors of the CSR initiative, Virtusa Corporation, three computers will be supplied with peripherals provided by Sala Enterprises, and another sponsor.

A Dialog CDMA telephone with internet facility would also be donated by Dialog Telekom and will be installed at the school for the use of the staff and the students.

The children will be presented with gift packs of educational material sponsored by Unilever Ceylon Pencil Company and a health camp will be held with Dr. Jagath Renuka Piyadasa and his wife with medical supplies donated by Hemas Pharmaceuticals Limited.

CIC Agribusiness has donated a complete home garden kit for the school and they will be visiting the school regularly to fertilize the garden and give advice and instructions.

Jetwing Hotels will be providing accommodation to the doctors and other invitees.

Our special thanks go to Lake House and the staff and principal sponsors of this CSR initiative, Virtusa Corporation, Dialog Telekom, Unilever, CIC Agri Business, Hemas Pharmaceuticals and Jetwing Hotels without whom this project would not have become a reality.

Dr. Jagath Renuka Piyadasa and his wife deserve a big thank you for consenting to run the health camp amidst their busy schedules.

We also thank our other sponsors, Sala Enterprises, Kelani Cables, Bank of Ceylon, Hatton National Bank, Ceylon Pencil Company, Rohan Jayasinghe Chairman Ceynor and Thai Airways Colombo for their willing assistance towards making this CSR initiative a success.
