Nation honours Kilinochchi war heroes

The nation yesterday observed two minutes silence at 8.35 a.m to
honour the valiant soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the
liberation of Kilinochchi where the LTTE's so-called administrative
complex was located.
School children islandwide began the fresh term by paying tribute to
those who laid down their lives to protect the country's sovereignty and
terrorial integrity.
The State and private sector employees came out from their workplaces
to express their gratitude to the valiant soldiers by observing two
minutes silence.
Vehicles on roads came to a halt sharp at 8.35 a.m to observe two
minutes silence with drivers alighting from vehicles to fete the
gallantry of the forces in their battle against the scourge of terrorism
in the Northern front.
The Government on Saturday requested the public and private sector
institutions to organise a special program on Monday morning to honour
the forces who dedicated their lives to liberate Kilinochchi.
The people began celebrating the recapture of Kilinochchi just few
minutes after the victory was declared by President Mahinda Rajapaksa at
a ceremony at the Presidential Secretariat telecast live. |
