Disaster prevention move

The Institute of National Buildings and Research has allocated nearly Rs. 60 million for its natural disaster prevention program in Matale, Kandy and Nuwaraeliya districts, District Secretary of Matale Gamini Seneviratne said.

These districts are prone to national disasters. The threat of earthslips and cracks on the earth and buildings and heavy winds are frequent in these areas. certain disasters can be prevented if proper precautions are taken, said the District Secretary.

The Matale district is subject to several geological changes. The threatened areas have to be mapped to minimise damages to lives and property, he said.
