Kelaniya Duruthu Perahera begins on January 7

The annual Kelaniya Duruthu Perahera will be held on January 7, 8 and 9.

The annual pageant begins with the Udamaluwa Perahera on January 7 and will conclude with the Maha Perahera on January 9.

There will be more than 50 elephants on parade.

Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya, the most sacred temple in the Western Province since the Buddha's sojourn here during His third historic visit to Sri Lanka, celebrates this event annually in the Duruthu Poya during January by conducting a historic, traditional and cultural pageant, the "Kelani Perahera."
