National Cultural Centre opens
Sri Lanka's first ever National Cultural Centre was opened at
Veyangoda by Cultural Affairs and National Heritage Minister Mahinda
Yapa Abeywardena, recently.
Minister said, culture plays a vital role in promoting peace and
harmony among different ethnic groups.
The Government, while defeating the LTTE, has a parallel program to
revive culture. It is right to assume that war affected people have to
tackle all the challenges of living, resettlement employment and
culture. The Government has a constructive plan to solve all these
problems, the Minister said.
He also said the President has a good vision to take the country
through the path of progress. "We must extend our fullest-co-operation
to go ahead with his good mission," he said.
The Rs. 87 million cultural centre consists of a building that serves
research facility while the main building targets to promote education
primarily among the youth.
Cultural Affairs and National Heritage Ministry Secretary, A. L. W.
Samarasingha, Gampaha District Secretary P. A. Abeysekera. Attanagalla
Divisional Secretary S. G. Wijayabandu, Gampaha District MP Sarana
Gunawardena and Sirinimal Lakdusingha also spoke. |
