Shakespearean Challenge 2009
The closing date for schools to register with the Shakespearean
Challenge 2009, a programme consisting of five different competitions by
the Shakespearean Centre Sri Lanka has been extended to January 20
following requests from schools outside Colombo.
The Shakespearean Challenge 2009, a unique project initiated with the
objective of promoting Shakespearean theatre among schoolchildren
consists of five different competitions featuring drama, oration, essay
writing, Shakespeare translation as well as the inter-school quiz
competition.
These competitions are on the 37 plays written by William
Shakespeare.
The qualifying rounds of the quiz, oration, and drama competitions
will commence on February 28, and March 1, at the Sudarshi Institute.
The final date for submission of essays and Shakespeare translations is
February 28.
The participants in the inter-school quiz competition are expected to
maintain a very basic understanding of all Shakespearean plays.
The drama competition would feature 20 minute performances of
Shakespearean plays.
The oration and essay competitions would be open to all students to
speak and write on any topic concerned with Shakespearean theatre.
