Moderate quake strikes off coast of Pakistan
PAKISTAN: A 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck off the southwest
coast of Pakistan early Friday, the US Geological Survey said.
The moderate quake struck around 300 kilometres (190 miles) southwest
of the city of Karachi at 2240 GMT Thursday, the US agency said.
There were no immediate reports of any damage or casualties and there
was no immediate alert from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre following
the shallow quake, which struck at a depth of just 10 kilometres (six
miles).
Around 300 people were killed and 70,000 left homeless when a
6.4-magnitude quake hit the Pakistani region of Baluchistan in late
October.
