Police have taken steps to protect all shoppers during the festive
season. These steps have been taken under the supervision of Western
Province Senior DIG Nimal Mediwaka.
Senior DIG has also made arrangements to ascertain whether the
shop-keepers, payment hawkers and three-wheeler drivers in the Colombo
city are carrying out the instructions to prevent any security threats
during the festive season. The Central Police Division earlier organised
a poster campaign to educate the public on bomb threats in the city.
The poster displayed the massage “Be careful- the bags, travelling
bags or vehicle in your presence without an owner can be a bomb. Avoid
touching it. Move away to a safe distance and request the others also to
move away from the scene.”
“In such a situation inform the nearest Police Post, Police Station,
Army Check Point on the following telephone numbers - Defence Ministry
on 118, Police Emergency on 119, Police Emergency Unit, Colombo on
011-2433333, STF Operation Room on 011- 258518, Police Headquarters on
011- 2421111 and Army Bomb Defusing Unit on 011- 2434251.”
These posters in all three languages have been pasted in and around
the city including public places like the Central Bus Stand, Railway
stations and main junctions. |
