Eye camps by YWMA
An eye camp was held by the Young Women Muslim Association (YWMA) to
carry out vision testing and to give out free glasses to the under
privileged recently.
Chief Guest was Principal Prima Bakery Training School Ranjan
Amarasinghe and Shriyani Weerakoon and Umesha Weerakoon were the
opticians. Officials from the YMMA and the YWMA were also present.
The second eye camp for November was conducted on November 15 at the
Town Hall, Bandarawela by the YWMA.
This occasion was graced by Urban Council Chairman Bandarawela Nalin
Sooriyage, the Managing Director Ambatanne Tea Factory, priests and
public servants. Reading glasses were donated to over 600 persons of the
area.
The YWMA will conduct eye camps at the Gampaha district in Kahatowita,
Thihariya and Wattala. The YWMA caries out various projects to Uplift
the under privileged, mainly children and widows. Self employment
projects, providing shelter to the homeless and providing meals to the
undernourished children of chosen schools are being carried out.
Scholarships are also given to students pursuing higher studies.
A member of the YWMA visited Malaysia on invitation of the Malaysian
Government to study project strategies. |
