Wild jumbos create havoc

Several villages in the Galewela Divisional Secretariat are invaded
by a herd of wild elephants and the villagers are terrified as these
elephants are creating havoc damaging houses and cultivations.
Within a week the elephants were rampant in Meewalapathana, Ihala
Diggala and Pahala Diggala in the Galewela Division Secretariat area.
These elephants have damaged several houses, motor cycles and
cultivations, the villagers complained.
They said the matter was informed to the Wildlife Department but no
action has been taken.
The villagers request the authorities to act promptly to avoid
further destruction.

S. Mohideen, 52, of Kollupitiya is suffering from a severe kidney
ailment and presently undergoing heomodialysis twice a week. According
to Dr. Surjith Somaiah of Apollo Hospital Colombo, Mohideen needs to
undergo a renal transplantation and an "A" positive kidney is required.

Keshawan Balakrishnan, resident of Enderamulla in Wattala who was
injured in an accident needs to undergo a surgery in his spinal cord.
Doctors of the Nawaloka hospital has recommended him a surgery which
costs Rs. 430,000. Balakrishnan seeks public help to meet the required
