Wild jumbos create havoc

Several villages in the Galewela Divisional Secretariat are invaded by a herd of wild elephants and the villagers are terrified as these elephants are creating havoc damaging houses and cultivations.

Within a week the elephants were rampant in Meewalapathana, Ihala Diggala and Pahala Diggala in the Galewela Division Secretariat area. These elephants have damaged several houses, motor cycles and cultivations, the villagers complained.

They said the matter was informed to the Wildlife Department but no action has been taken.

The villagers request the authorities to act promptly to avoid further destruction.
