Moves to boost freshwater fishing

A program is underway to improve freshwater fishing industry in the Eastern province.

Under this program, fingerlings will be dropped at many tanks and ponds in the Province.

Already 40,000 fingerlings have been dropped at Annamalai tank on the initiative of the Fisheries, Agriculture and Livestock Ministry. A ceremony was organised at Annamalai in this connection. Member of the Eastern Provincial Council S. Pushparajah was the chief guest. Social workers, Government officials of the Fisheries Department attended.

The provincial council member said the move will improve the living standards of the fishermen in the area.
