Matale MC's budget passed

Matale Municipal Council's Budget proposals for 2009 was passed by a majority of seven votes at the special meeting held yesterday presided over by Mayor Hilmy Careem.

The ruling United People's Freedom Alliance consisting of six members together with two members from the Ceylon Workers' Congress and an independent member voted the total of nine votes as against the solitary two votes respectively from the United National Party and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna.

Opposition Leader D. Aluwihare and another UNP member were absent at the meeting.
