Aviation degrees from University of Kelaniya

“It is one of the key obligations of a University to focus on
development and enhance the knowledge of every citizen.
“This new step not only would add quality but it will also put in a
value addition to these study courses,” Prof. Sarath Amunugama said
addressing the media on the occasion to sign the certificate of
accreditation of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Academy with the
University of Kelaniya was held recently at the China Bay Air Force base
in Trincomalee.

The certificate was signed by the Vice Chancellor of the University
of Kelaniya Prof. Sarath Amunugama and Commandant of the Air Force
Academy, Group Captain N.H.V. Gunaratne.
Prof. Amunugama added Universities should not concentrate solely on
educating undergraduates, but show importance in boosting the knowledge
of the entire population and other professional fields.
Accrediting the SLAF Academy to the University of Kelaniya would
result in awarding Bachelor of Science Degrees in Aviation Studies for
the first time in SLAF history. This is the first ever degree in this
field in the local University system.
A postgraduate diploma in Defence Management is already being awarded
to the officers training under the Junior Officers’ Command and Staff
College.
Vice Chancellor of the Kelaniya University, Prof. Amunugama and the
Chief of Staff, Air Vice Marshal P.B. Premachandra were the chief
guests.
Dean of the Faculty of Science. Prof. D. Jayasuriya, Professor in
Physics, Prof. W.P. Siripala, Prof. D.S. Kulathunga of the Department of
Mathematics and the Head of Industrial Management Department, Dr. A.P.R.
Wickramarachchi participated in the event representing the University of
Kelaniya. Several senior Air Force Officers were also present at the
event.
