Opportunity for choral singers to perform in Verdi's Requiem
The great Italian opera composer Guiseppe Verdi's setting to music of
the Requiem Mass is one of the most dramatic and awe inspiring works in
the choral literature.
A performance of this work under the direction of the well known
British Conductor Gregory Rose, is being sponsored by the Dr. Earle de
Fonseka Trust, through the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka. In addition
to being a choral conductor, Dr. Earle de Fonseka was the conductor of
the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka for over forty years.
A joint choir of over 150 singers is being organised for the
performance which will take place on the 6th and 7th of March 2009, at
the Anglican Cathedral.
The joint choir will consist of Singers from the Merry An Singers,
Peradeniya Singers, Menaka Singers, Soul Sounds, Philharmonic choir,
Camerata and the Josephian Choir. Singers not belonging to one of these
choirs, who wish to join in the performance, are welcome.
They are invited to contact the SOSL office (telephone: 2501209) for
details.
This will be for many, a once in a life time opportunity to take part
in this magnificent work, and one not to be missed. |
