UNP Muslims baffled - Azwer
UNP Muslim supporters in the country are baffled by the absence of
any Muslim in the re-structured bureaucracy of the UNP, said
Presidential Advisor and a former stalwart of the UNP A.H.M. Azwer.
It is believed that they are disappointed and highly dejected for the
reason that the names of the new office bearers announced by the party
leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has no Muslim for the posts of Deputy
Leader, Assistant leaders, Chairman, Secretary and Assistant
Secretaries.
Former Assistant Treasurer and Kandy District leader Abdul Cader's
name has also been omitted, despite he being a loyalist of Ranil
Wickremesinghe, and had applied for the post of Assistant Leader, when
applications were called for. It should be reminisced that Dr. M.C.M.
Kaleel, a founder Vice President of the UNP, had been the first Chairman
appointed by late President J.R. Jayewardene, Later A.C.S. Hameed had
been the Chairman and M.H. Mohamed had held the post of Vice Chairman.
This amply illustrates the attitude of Ranil Wickremesinghe towards
Muslim leaders in the party and the Muslim community in general. |
