Munchee demonstrated once again why it is regarded as a well loved
and most successful brand in Sri Lanka and abroad when it won Brand of
the Year (Gold), Product Brand of the Year (Gold), Export Brand of the
Year (Gold), CSR Brand of the Year (Gold) and Local Brand of the Year
(Silver), with its most popular variant Munchee Super Cream Cracker
winning the Bronze in Product Brand of the Year. Winning across diverse
categories such as Export Brand of the Year and CSR Brand of the Year,
in addition to the main product marketing categories, showed that
Munchee had graduated to the realm of a mega brand that not only
captures global markets but also integrates social responsibility as
part and parcel of its make up in uplifting the lives of Sri Lanka's
people. Its sister brands Tiara cakes and Ritzbury chocolates too proved
their mettle as versatile members of the CBL family when they won the
Silver and Bronze in the Innovative Brand of the Year category.
The awards recognized the CBL brands' marketing and brand management
prowess as well as consumer acceptance as reflected in sales
achievements. In capturing the newly introduced CSR Brand of the Year
award, Ceylon Biscuits showcased its numerous projects such as Munchee
Tikiri Sishyadara which prevents school dropouts through scholarships
that help them to achieve their potential, its support for the national
sport of Volleyball and for a future Olympian, its assistance to those
in the field of cinema, its farmer and entrepreneur upliftment
programmes, its disaster assistance and other corporate philanthropy
projects.
CBL's Group Director of Marketing and Sales Nandana Wickramage, who
has led the charge on CBL's impressive year on year performance at Brand
Excellence since 2002, testified saying "We replicated the same passion,
dedication and attention to detail that we display in competing in the
marketplace when we had to showcase these successes to the Brand
Excellence jury. Our marketing and promotional activity, brand
innovations and sales achievements spoke for themselves. We have thus
been able to win multiple awards year after year."
The new star of the evening was Munchee's dynamic Senior Brand
Manager Theja Peiris who carried away 4 Brand Champion Awards. An elated
Ms. Peiris was quick to cite teamwork as the key to the success of her
brands when she said "CBL has a powerful marketing and sales task force
that is committed to excellence and achievement."
