Sri Lankan woman honoured

After Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the father of micro-credit, another South Asian has been honoured for the leadership in elevations of poverty in the rural areas.

The honour comes to a Sri Lankan Thushari Hewapathirana, presently the Chief Executive Officer of CF Lanka Microfinance Company.

Hewapathirana, an Accountant by profession, having served in a leading development bank and realised that more than moneyed people, services are required for those who do not have money and Inspired by Professor Yunus' programme she joined micro-finance and engaged herself for the elevation of poverty of the rural poor. Her contributions are numerous but she has been profusely praised for penetrating in the otherwise closed societies of the minority community in the rural areas.
