People's forum
Lanka Plus, the only registered HIV/AIDS positive people's forum in
Sri Lanka have organised a programme in memory of one of their founder
members the late Dr. Kamalika Abeyratne at the National Film Corporation
Theatre on December 1 at 3 p.m.
The theme song for World Aids Day 2008 penned by Wasantha Kumara
Kobawaka and composed into melody by Jagath Wickramasinghe will also be
sung by Dayan Vitharana, Deepika Priyadharshani, Mariazelle Gunatileke,
Dalrene Subi, Nirosha Virajini, Nilukshi Jayaweerasingham and Jagath
Wickramasinghe. The item is directed by Senesh Dissanaike Bandara.

The eighth Annual General Meeting of the Association of Past
Employees of Singer will be held at the Sea View Hotel, Kollupitiya on
Sunday December 14 at 10.30 a.m.
Brunel International Lecture
The Institution of Civil Engineers-UK (ICE) established the Brunel
International Lecture series in 1999 in memory of Isambard Kingdom
Brunel.
Since then, the series had covered a variety of topics ranging from
infrastructure and technology for the third millennium to sustainable
development, poverty alleviation and water for the third world.
As part of the series of the Brunel International Lecture of the
Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Peter Head, Arup Director will be
delivering at the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka, Wijerama Mawatha,
Colombo 7 on Tuesday December 2 at 5 p.m., his landmark ICE Brunel
lecture; 'Entering the Ecological Age' exploring how the world can begin
to make the transition towards an ecological age of civilization. All
are welcome for this lecture.
Memorial oration
The Alumni Association of the University of Colombo is once again
organising the Annual Sujata Jayawardena Memorial Oration. The 2008
oration will be delivered by Vidya Jothi Professor A.P.R. Aluwihare,
Emeritus Professor of Surgery, University of Peradeniya on Thursday,
December 4 at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute (SLFI) Auditorium, No
100, Independence Square, Colombo 7, on the topic 'Universities, Doctors
and Society'. |
