Tigers suffer heavy losses in Alampil
Heavy clashes occurred between 59 Division troops and LTTE terrorists
yesterday. The troops were moving along the eastern axis towards Alampil.
Serious losses were caused to the Tigers in these confrontations,
military sources said. Troops later found three bodies of LTTE cadres
with three T-56 rifles.
Alampil is located about 10 Km south of LTTE’s last bastion
Mullaitivu. Troops of 59 Division are attacking LTTE strong points along
the northern bank of the Nayaru lagoon and dominating the Kumalamunai-
Alampil road.
Meanwhile, SLAF MI-24 helicopter gunships pounded LTTE targets in
Murukandy, east of Akkarayankulam yesterday morning in support of 57
Division troops, Air Force Spokesperson Wing Commander Janaka
Nanayakkara said.
In another development, 21 civilians from five families arrived in
Omanthai from uncleared areas in the Wanni seeking Security Forces
protection. There were 14 men, five women and two children. |
