Shooter Ruwini wins Silver
Sri Lanka's Ruwini Abeymanna put up a fine performance to win a
silver medal at the South Asian Games Rifle Shooting championships
concluded in Karachi, Pakistan yesterday.
Abeymanna from Slimline was placed second while competing in the
women's sports pistol shooting event.
In addition the Sri Lankan contingent also fared well and managed to
secure the bronze medal in the overall team championship.
Veterans meet postponed
The 15th Asian Masters Athletic Championship scheduled to be held
from Dec. 1-5 in Chiang Mai, Thailand has been postponed due to
country's unrest. The new dates for the games will be January 13-17,
said P.H.D. Waidyatillake Chef-de-mission and Chairman Technical
Committee of Asian Masters Athletics Association. SB
Gampaha Dist. softball cricket
The 30 over softball tournament organised by Gampaha District for
teams of Gampaha will be played on December 6-7 at Meepura ground,
Negombo. The winners of this tourney will receive the Nimal Lansa Trophy
and cash award of Rs. 10,000 while the runners-up are to receive Rs.
5,000 and 2,500 respectively. Already the organisers have received 13
entries for the tournament. The organisers also request other teams
interested, to send in their entries to Gampaha District organiser, or
