Alternative routes for stranded Lankans in Bangkok

The Sri Lankan Embassy in Bangkok is making arrangements for Sri Lankans stranded in Bangkok to leave Thailand via alternative routes as the Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, the main International Airport in Thailand, closed its operations since Wednesday.

The airport was closed in the morning after the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) and anti-Government protesters entered the passenger terminal. Bangkok's main domestic airport, Don Muang, was also closed early yesterday as the authorities feared that protesters might damage aircraft.

However, Bangkok Metropolitan areas are not affected and people are attending to their routine work.

Foreigners in Thailand are not targeted but the potential remains for them to be caught up in the violence.
