3,000 UNPers in Badulla district join SLFP

A batch of nearly 3,000 UNPers in the Badulla district renounced their party membership and joined the SLFP at a meeting presided by Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva at the Uva Provincial Council auditorium Badulla on Sunday.

They are residents of Katupelellagama, Pinarawa, Aluthwelagama, Wimaladharma Mawatha and Veeriyapura in Badulla. They said they were totally disillusioned with the UNP and its lacklustre leadership and decided to support the SLFP led by the President which was a vibrant party. Severe in fighting between the UNP leadership had caused the downfall of the party.

Minister Siripala de Silva said not only UNPers but members of other parties such as the JVP and the CWC were flocking behind the SLFP in large numbers to ensure its success at future elections convinced about the pragmatic policies adopted by the President and his Government.
