President guiding country on correct path - Anunayake Thera

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has earned the plaudits of the people for upholding democracy and making a determined effort to foster peace and co-existence among different communities in the country, said Ven. Niyangoda Vijithasiri Anunayaka Thera of the Malwatta Chapter.

Ven. Vijithasiri Thera expressed these sentiments delivering an anusasana at the commencement of the all night pirith ceremony at the Kandy President's House on Monday to invoke blessings on the President, Security Forces, Police and the people.

Ven. Vijithasiri Thera said when President Rajapaksa assumed office three years ago, he took over a country saddled with a plethora of problems. The country had been able to overcome many of those problems because the President had administered the country in a pragmatic and meaningful manner.

He said the President was today guiding the country properly to ensure its future well being.

"As a result, the East had been totally liberated from LTTE terrorist clutches for stabilisation of democracy and a major part of the North too had been freed from terrorist clutches. The people were confident that the entire North would be liberated by our Security Forces in the near future," the thera said.

Ven. Vijithasiri Thera said the President was also making a bold effort to boost the indigenous economy by developing the agricultural sector.

Many socio-cultural problems which confronted the country had also been solved during the last three years.

The President's efforts to boost the country's international image by further promoting bi-lateral relations with Asian giants like India China should be highly commended. The Maha Sangha highly treasured the patronage given by the President to foster Buddhism, he said.

He said the Malwatta Chapter Karaka Sangha Sabha which foresaw the immense leadership qualities of President Rajapaksa conferred the Sri Rohana Janaranjana honorary title several years ago and the President had proved his suitability for this honour by working with greater vigour for the welfare of the country and its people.
