Troops enter Kumulamunai, 21 Tiger bunkers captured

KUMULAMUNAI: The 59 Division troops operating in the South of Mullaitivu entered the strategically important Kumulamunai village located 12 km south of the LTTE stronghold of Mullaitivu after capturing 21 Tiger bunkers located between Thannimurippukulam and Kumulamunai, Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara told the Daily News.

“Troops are now clearing the area around Kumulamunai and consolidating their positions in the Kumulamunai village,” the Brigadier added.

According to military officials Kumulamunai is the first build up area after passing the Andankulam forest reserve in the South of Mullaitivu.

By entering Kumulamunai village troops are now within striking distance of Mullaitivu , a senior Army official said.

According to military officials this is the first time troops have reached this village after commencing military operations from the Weli Oya area.
