Swindler nabbed hiding inside ceiling

A man absconding after swindling hundreds of persons of millions of rupees on the promise of appointing them as sales agents of a Fruit Drink Company, was taken into custody by Dambulla Police while hiding inside a ceiling of a house at Gokarella.

According to victims, the suspect had published an advertisement calling for applications for sales agents. The applicants had been told to deposit Rs. 50,000 to 150,000 after they applied for the posts. The victims had also entered into an agreement with the suspect, said to be a resident of Pellandeniya, Kurunegala.

It was also revealed that the suspect had swindled a large sum in the same manner from several persons in Negombo, some time back. The suspect produced before Dambulla Magistrate Nimal Ranaweera was remanded until November 17.
