Leader of the House Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva yesterday
requested the UNP MP Palitha Range Bandara to provide the information he
is aware to the police and the CID on the assassination of NCP
Opposition Leader Retired Major General Janaka Perera.
The Minister responding to a privilege matter raised by MP Palitha
Range Bandara said the MP should divulge all the information he has on
this assassination to the Police and the CID if he is a law-abiding
citizen and a reputed Parliamentarian.
"The CID Director in a letter sent to MP Palitha Range Bandara has
humbly requested to extend his support to conduct these investigations,"
the Minister said.
Palitha Range Bandara said the CID through the Speaker has inquired
about a speech made by him in Parliament on the assassination of Major
General Janaka Perera even before the release of the Hansard Report.
"Therefore, I would like to know whether the CID is supervising the
speeches made by the MPs in Parliament."
Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva said the CID has not forced the MP
to give any information.
The MP is accusing the CID and the Government that they are
attempting to halt these investigations. Therefore this speech made by
the MP will be published in the media. "The CID is conducting
investigations to identify the true assassin who is connected to this
killing. This is the responsibility entrusted upon the CID. Therefore,
the CID Director has humbly requested the MP to give the information he
has to the CID if he is willing to do so. What's wrong with it?
If the MP is aware on any information on this assassination, I
request him to provide that information to the CID as a reputed
Parliamentarian," the Minister added.
