Shivantha re-elected DSPPA president
Well-known former Sports Star Shivantha Vivekanandan was elected
uncontested as President, Deaf School Past Pupils' Association, The
School for the Deaf, Ratmalana for the sixth successive year at the 59th
Annual General Meeting held at the Stanley Hall, The School for the
Deaf, Ratmalana recently.
A distinguished past pupil of the School for the Deaf, Ratmalana and
Maryline High School, Kollupitiya, he was a good sportsman as well as a
brilliant student who won many awards in sports, art and studies. He
represented the Deaf Recreation Club, Rajagiriya at cricket, athletics
and table tennis where he won many trophies, medals, certificates and
awards.
During Vivekanandan's excellent stint, who is the current chairman,
Organizing Committee, he organised the Deaf Schools Sports activities
like netball, cricket and volleyball (Boys and Girls), partnered by
Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC (then Caltex Lubricants Lanka Ltd) from
2002 to 2010, which many deaf schools in Sri Lanka took part in these
tournaments. Chevron extended the sponsorship to organize these sports
activities thrice owing to Vivekanandan's dynamic leadership, as an
active member, he organized the membership campaigns where many deaf
past pupils enrolled as well as many events for his alma mater.
