'Agra,' an exclusive Indian restaurant offering authentic North Indian Moghul cuisine celebrated its first anniversary, with a colorful two day event last week.

This also coincided with the 50th birth day celebrations of Shanker Somasunderam who is the owner of the restaurant.

A cross section of society attended the event, which had a Bollywood style theme, a fireworks display and a host of other entertainment.

Speaking on the milestone, the owner of Agra Shanker Somasunderam, said, "We have a had a very successful year, especially in being able to meet a niche market, tantalizing their taste buds with authentic Indian cuisine.

The restaurant has attracted a loyal clientele who enjoy the ambience and the exquisite dining experience that is offered here.

In terms of the future, we plan to further heighten the customers dining experience by bringing in more improvements and value additions."

Over 42 travel companies will represent Sri Lanka at the World Travel Market scheduled to be held from November 10 to 13 in London.

Director General Tourism Authority, Dillip Mudadeniya said that for the first time they would launch an advertising campaign on both the London Taxis and on the tube.

Sri Lanka, which has played a key role in the Global Earth lung programme, once again will make series of representation with follow up events during the WTM.

In addition Minister of Tourism, Milinda Moragoda will attend a Common Wealth Tourism Ministers summit.

More than 100 government Tourism Ministers and senior aides will meet at World Travel Market this year to examine the impact of the current economic meltdown.

They will look at its impact on the pressing global industry issues of poverty reduction, sustainability and climate change as well. World Travel Market’s Ministers’ Summit on Tuesday 11 November at ExCeL London, part of WTM’s Ministers’ Programme, is in partnership with the UNWTO. The half-day meeting will be broadcast in a separate room for delegates to watch, as well as on screens in ExCeL’s Central Boulevard.

“Vital issues pertaining to the industry during turbulent times would be discussed at the event,” he said.

“Faced with the economic uncertainty, tourism must seriously look at how these reservations will affect the industry while making sure not to loose sight of its commitment to provide solutions to global challenges, particularly global warming, sustainable development and poverty” he said.

WTM will welcome over 400 other exhibitors from the European region this year. More than 47,000 travel professionals too will attent the event this year in UK.
