Holy Cross clinch Super Sixteen Sevens Trophy
Holy Cross College, Kalutara clinched the Super Sixteen Sevens Trophy
by beating three times champions Zahira College, Colombo by one goal to
nil in the final played at Zahira College grounds, Maradana on November
1 (Saturday) in front of a large crowd.
The final was closely fought out and there was no scoring at half
time. The lads from Kalutara changed their game plan after the breather
and in the 5th minute of the second half right extreme Pradeep Ayshmanth
scored the match winning goal to give Holy Cross College the Super
Sixteen Soccer Sevens title much to the joy of their supporters.
The tournament was organised by the Past Prefects Association of
Zahira College, Colombo headed by its President Roshan Razik and was
sponsored by the Phone Company and Pyramid Wilmer (Pvt) Limited and the
Chief Guest was O. H. Suleiman, Chairman of the Phone Company while the
Guest of Honour was Chrysantha Perera, CEO of Football Federation of Sri
Lanka.
More than 180 players from 16 leading schools took part in this
tournament while referees from the Football Federation officiated. The
Plate Trophy was won by Dharmaraja College, Kandy which beat Hindu
College, Colombo 5-nil. K. R. Kumara of Dharmaraja was adjudged Man of
the Plate final while J.
Madushanka of Holy Cross was picked as the. Man of the Cup
Championship final while the Best Goal keepers Award went to W. P. D.
Sujan Perera of Holy Cross while M. Fazal of Zahira College, Colombo had
the honour of being adjudged the most valuable player of the tournament.
