Party let me down, alleges Kandy UNP MC member

Kandy Municipal Council UNP member Ilahi Abdeen said he would take a drastic political decision soon as the party had severely let him down regarding the Deputy Mayor’s post.

He said in 2006 Suminda Wickremasinghe was appointed Deputy Mayor on a rotation basis under an agreement for him to step down after two years to make way for him.

Accordingly, Wickremasinghe should have relinquished office in April this year to enable him to take up the job for the ensuing two years.

Since Wickremasinghe had failed to do so he was contemplating taking drastic decision on the matter.
