Romance gone sour ends in death

A romance took a drastic turn when a Home Guard shot his girlfriend and injured her mother in Gomarankaduwa, Trincomalee on Sunday. He later shot himself and was admitted to the Trincomalee Hospital.

Police spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said a Home Guard shot dead his girlfriend K.N. Anupama (15) over a tiff around 7 pm on Sunday. "The tragedy had occurred at Anupama's house in Gomarankaduwa, Galkadawela," he added. The suspect later shot himself.

Meanwhile, the mother of the victim who was also injured in the shooting incident was admitted to hospital.

In another incident, four youth were shot dead and another injured by an unidentified gunmen in Kalmunai on Sunday evening. He said four gunmen who arrived on two motorcycles fired at five youth on the Kalmunai beach around 8.30 pm on Sunday.
