Nugegoda Chief Magistrate Wasantha Jinadasa yesterday granted bail
for Attorney-at-Law Shamila Fernando, the Legal Officer attached to the
"Sakvithi Ranasinghe Construction Company."
The Magistrate ordered attorney Shamila Fernando to furnish cash bail
in Rs.10,000 and a bond of Rs.100,000 each with two sureties. Granting
bail, the Magistrate directed Attorney Fernando to appear before the CID
every Sunday between 9 a.m. and 12 noon. Upali Senaratne, Senior Counsel
for Fernando, moving for bail submitted that his client was only an
employee of the Sakvithi Company and had no involvement with the money
transactions done by the Sakvithi Ranasinghe. An Attorney's duty was
only assessing the deeds and assisting to sign agreements between the
Company and the depositors, Senior Counsel Senaratne said.
The Senior Defence Counsel earlier submitted a medical report from a
psychiatrist regarding the mental and health conditions of the two and
half years old child of Shamila Fernando.
