Devans - under 20 ten-a-side rugby champions of Wayamba

Maliyadeva College Kurunegala became the champions in the under 20 10-a-side Wayamba Province Inter School rugby tournament by beating the strong St. Anne's College 22 points (1 goal 3 tries) to 7 (1 goal) which was played at the People's Park, Kurunegala recently.

The Devans staged an outstanding performance right throughout the tournament who beat three of their opponents comfortably. St. Anne's College too played a good game but lack possesstion and spilled passes at several occations, thus the Devans took the opportunity to go for four tries.

The Plate was won by D.B. Welegedara Maha Vidyalaya who beat Wayamba, M.M. Vidyalaya (Maho) in an exciting match 14 points to 5 while the Bowl was won by Panduwasnuwara National College who beat Ehetuwewa National College 19 points to nil.

This under 20 10-a-side rugby tournament was organised by the Wayamba Province Rugby Football Union (WPRFU) and sponsored by Former National and CH & FC player Nishantha Dias (President WPRFU).

More than 160 participants from 12 schools took part in this tournament. The chief guest was Thusitha de Silva (Patron Wayamba Province RFU)
