Melamine scare could affect local brands - Mawbima Lanka Padanama
Dharma Sri ABEYRATNE
The impact of Melamine in local food products has created
unprecedented chaos among local consumers and this prevailing situation
probably could lead to negative consequences on local brands, said
Mawbima Lanka Padanama, the association which has been formed aiming to
cultivate a culture to buy local products.
At a press briefing, Mawbima Lanka Padanama pointed out that there is
a coup behind the melamine issue. As a part of that coup two well
recognised local brands were produced before the courts by the Consumer
Authority.
These two bands are not engaging in the milk industry but
manufacturing their products using milk. These companies bring a lot of
foreign exchange to the country.
When considering this situation it is clear that there may be a coup
behind the screen a spokesman of the Mawbima Lanka Padanama said.
Some local individuals backed by multinational and foreign
institutions are trying to damage the local economy, the spokesman
added.
"Therefore, it is important that we, as members of the Mawbima Lanka
Padanama who are committed toward the protection and survival of local
brands, should meet and understand the ground realities and the
intricacies involved in the melamine issue.
It is our duty to show our solidarity and support to those brands
that are affected as the current situation has arisen due to external
factors that they have little control over.
