Jayalalithaa's convoy attacked
AIADMK Chief J Jayalalithaa's convoy was stoned near Madurai
yesterday a day after she received an assassination threat allegedly
from a Canada-based pro-LTTE outfit.
While Jayalalithaa was not hurt, her car window was broken after
stones were pelted as she was on her way from Madurai to Ramnad
district. Jayalalithaa has blamed the DMK for the attack and says her
security cover is not enough.
The incident comes a day after she received a hand written letter
that said if Jayalalithaa does not stop criticising the LTTE she will be
assassinated like former Pakistan prime minister, Benazir Bhutto.
The letter was allegedly sent from Malaysia.
Meanwhile, DMK Chief Karunanidhi said that the Tamil Nadu Government
would extend it's full support to the Central Government's efforts for a
peaceful settlement for the Sri Lankan ethnic Tamils issue.
Addressing a gathering after dedicating the Rajiv Gandhi Salai to the
nation and inaugurating the Oragadam Industrial Park Road Development
Works on Wednesday, he said that the DMK always stood for peaceful
settlement through dialogue between those involved in the conflict. "We
never believed in gun for gun, blood for blood policy to find a solution
to the issue.
