Politicians must serve people or be rejected - Provincial
Councillor
Matale district group correspondent
The people's representatives are servants of the public and not their
masters. All people's representatives who want to remain in the
political arena should understand and cater to the needs of the common
masses, otherwise they will be rejected by the people, said Matale
district SLFP organiser and Provincial Councillor L. D. Nimalasiri.
He said this after opening a new bridge for the public in
Nikgollayaya area in Dambulla P. S. division.
Nimalasiri said that the Government has taken every possible step to
develop the infrastructure facilities in rural areas with the aim of
promoting the living standard of the low income families according to
that a number of development projects have been initiated centralizing
the rural areas.
He said we have enough resources to develop our country but during
the regime of the United National Party the majority of these resources
were given to the private sector, as a result now the entire nation has
to face an economic crisis.
Nimalasiri said development programmes have been launched covering
the entire rural areas by the Government. Under this situation job
opportunities are being generated and food producttion activities are
considerably improved.
He said within a short period the entire common development
activities in the country will be attended too by the Government.
H. M. Tennakoon Banda and Mrs. I. G. Sumanawathi also spoke. |
