Vijaya and Seethadevi reign supreme

Vijaya College Matale and Seethadevi B.V. Kandy reigned supreme at the 6th annual Sisil - Singer Blue and Gold Hockey sevens held at Royal College Grounds, recently.

This years tournament had the added impetus with the introduction of the Plate and the Bowl in addition to the Cup. This Hockey extravaganza organized by the Royal College Hockey Club proved to be a thriller for 52 teams from all over the island and very high standard of Hockey was witnessed on both days amidst colourful atmosphere.

The game was declared open on the 11th morning by Premalal de Silva, Sales Director the Chief Guest and Dhammika Wijesundara, Sales Manager Sisil as the Guest of Honour.

The two days of exhilarating Hockey was on display. The Bowl, Plate and Cup finals were held on Sunday followed by a colourful award ceremony where Hemaka Amarasuriya Chairman Singer Sri Lanka was the chief guest and Asita Abayasekara Marketing Director Singer Sri Lanka was the Guest of Honour. Results of the tournament is as follows.

Boys - Bowl -Runners-up - St. Sylvesters College, Kandy, Champions - Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa.

Girls - Runners-up - Gothami Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo, Champions - Yasodara Balika Vidyalaya, Gampaha.

Plate (Boys)

Runners up - Ananda Vidyalaya, Colombo, Champions - Nalanda Vidyalaya, Colombo.

Girls - Runners-up - Vijaya College, Matale, Champions - Christ Church Girls College, Matale.

Cup - (Boys)

2nd Runners-up - Royal College, Colombo (Gold), 1st Runners-up - Christ Church, Matale, Champions - Vijaya College, Matale.

Girls - 2nd Runners-up - Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo, 1st Runners-up- Pushpadana Balika Vidyalaya, Kandy, Champions - Seethadevi Balika Vidyalaya, Kandy.

Best Goal - Keeper (Boys) K. T. Piyasiri - Christ Church, Matale, (Girls) S. Samarakoon - Pushpadana, Kandy.

Most Outstanding Player (Boys) - K. P. Senanayaka - Vijaya Matale, (Girls) Y. M. B. N. K. Gunaratne - Seethadevi, Kandy.
