Birth certificate for every Lankan

A national programme to equip every Sri Lankan with a birth certificate will be expedited, the Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry said.

The programme has been extended to the divisional secretary's level and 400 additional district registrars will be recruited to further strengthen it.

Practical problems faced by officials, were also discussed at a recent conference chaired by Deputy Home Affairs Minister, Chandrasiri Gajadheera. Issuing of copies of birth certificates were also facilitated by the Ministry mobile services.

Work of the Registrar General's Department have been streamlined and for personal emoluments alone the amount allocated is Rs. 239 million, the Deputy Minister said.
