Dynamic Dance Studio
5th anniversary performance
Rhythm World Dance Studio, established by Shiromi Perera at the
beginning of this decade, will be hold its 5th annual dance at the
Cinnamon Grand Hotel today with 'Sohan and the Experiments' and 'Kismet'
in attendance and Viran Corea compering the show.
The studio specialises in Latin American and Ballroom Dancing and
could be regarded as a school with a difference, "where all who join
feel they belong". Its motto is 'Dance for pleasure and love it
forever'.
The founder of Rhythm World could also be regarded as a teacher with
a difference. She has been in the field of Latin and Ballroom for the
past 18 years, first as a

student, then as a teacher. She is professionally qualified
under the UK Dance Body known as The National Association for the
Teachers of Dancing, having done her advanced training in Singapore. She
also followed a separate training program in the same country, which
enabled her to obtain a certificate from the International Olympic Latin
and Ballroom Dance Association. In Singapore, therefore, she learned
proper technique in both Latin American and Ballroom Dancing at a very
high level, and is totally devoted to imparting her knowledge and skills
to her students. In return, she expects the same kind of motivation and
attention from her students, who range from teenagers to senior
citizens.
Shiromi is very punctual and always begins her classes on time. She
is very particular about things like justice and fairplay (not to
mention discipline) and applies the same rules to everyone. There are no
favourites in her school and all her students are treated equally. She
does not tolerate any back-stabbing or petty politics in her school. She
wants the school to have a good, clean reputation and does not hesitate
to throw out the so-called trouble-makers, even if they happen to be
good dancers.
The classes at Rhythm World consist of several categories - including
Beginners, Advanced, Bronze, Silver and Gold - and there are exams at
every level, except beginners. Shiromi's ambition, apart from teaching
the young and the old to dance, is to establish a professional dance
company that could undertake regular engagements and also put on a big
show annually. Her dream could become a reality by the end of this
decade as her school is growing rapidly in both size and stature.
Shiromi has a very talented, dedicated and loyal dance team of young
enthusiastic dancers who undergo hard training.
It is the enthusiasm and loyalty of this dance team that has given
her a reason to look forward to organising similar events. These young
dancers will perform at the 5th annual dinner dance, displaying their
talent and ability as they do in their classes.
Shiromi is extremely grateful for the support and encouragement she
gets from the students, both young and senior - especially the Dance
Committee that has put this entire event together. |
