Unhygienic food haul seized in Kandy raid

Large stocks of unhygienic food items worth nearly Rs. 300,000 were
seized by Kandy Municipal Health Department offices during raids on
nearly 200 institutions in Kandy including hotels, restaurants,
supermarkets and production agents yesterday.
"Nearly 100 restaurants came under our scrutiny and a large number of
them had outdated and unhygienic food put up for sale," said Municipal
Health (Food) Inspector H.S. Wijetunga.
Over 10 supermarkets were also checked and several managers were
warned to remove outdated food stuffs and other items from their
shelves, he added.
A team led by Inspector H.S. Wijetunga conducted the raids directed
by Chief MoH Asoka Senarath. |
