Jayalalithaa slams Tigers, pro-LTTE groups
Salient points from the statement issued by AIADMK General Secretary
J. Jayalalithaa yesterday.
Jayalalithaa stated that remarks by Director Seaman and Ameer were
objectionable, antirational and against the sovereignty of India.
She also criticised references calling for a separate Tamil Nadu and
'willing to take up arms'.
She said the killing of a former Indian Prime Minister was challenge
to India's sovereignty and was not a private family matter.
She stated that she is the only leader in Tamil Nadu who is against
the LTTE.
She said 'Tamils are not depending on Prabahakaran. Prabahakaran is a
destructive force. In the pretext of ceasefire he accumulates weapons
and items required by him. Who was responsible for the killing of Tamil
leaders such as Amirthalingam and Padmanabha? It's this same
Prabahakaran'. Currently a few LTTE cadres are reported to be taking
treatment at the hospital in Vellore. So far the Government has not
responded to this.
The LTTE is a banned organisation. If those opposing the LTTE are
betrayers of Tamils then those supporting the LTTE are traitors. She
emphasised that separation and separate Tamil Nadu and other such
illegal and antirational activities will be firmly opposed by the AIADMK.
she stressed that there is no room for compromise.
Action by the Congress Party against the LTTE
C. Gnanasekaran, an MLA from the Congress Party criticised speeches
by film directors Ameer and Seaman at the Tamil film industry's rally
and public meeting in Rameshwaram on October 19. Gnanasekaran stated:
"...the two should be arrested under the National Security Act (NSA)".
Following a meeting of Congress Party members at the Secretariat to
discuss the current crisis, which included eleven MLAs. Congress
Legislature Party leader D. Sudarshanam stated that the States and
Central Governments should take stern action against anyone,
irrespective of who they are, if they support the banned LTTE under the
National Security Act. The gathering also condemned and requested stern
action against Ameer and Seaman.
He is also reported to have stated that the party also vehemently
condemned anyone who called for a separate Tamil Nadu in India
(referring to Vaiko and Kannappan's remarks) at a meeting organized by
pro-LTTE Advocates yesterday. |
