Opposition must support Govt to crush terrorism - Media Minister

Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardane yesterday urged the opposition to join hands with the Government to end terrorism.

Minister Abeywardane condemning the attack on two food ships to Jaffna said that such senseless attacks will never hamper the food supply and the humanitarian assistance to Jaffna.

Addressing the media at his Ministry auditorium he said certain NGOs had levelled baseless allegations that the ships subjected to the attack of LTTE suicide cadres were carrying equipment to the army. He said that the ship was carrying the food items and other essential items.

Minister Abeywardane stated that during the attack no serious damage was caused to the ships. The Navy could foil the attempt of LTTE suicide cadres while destroying two boats and capturing one. He said that the Essential Services Commission dispatched the consignments to Jaffna by another ship. He said that the Government is continuing the war against the terrorism without harming the livelihood and the civil life of Jaffna peninsula residents.
