CCC promotes trade with Chile
The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) held a meeting with the
Ambassador for Chile, H.E Alfonso Silva recently in keeping with its
efforts to promote closer dialogue between the members of Ceylon Chamber
of Commerce and overseas trade representatives.
The meeting offered the participants an insight in to the Chilean
market while the exporters and importers were given an opportunity to
brief the Ambassador about the problems they face in trading with
Chile.It also served as a platform for the Ambassador to obtain
background information from the importers and exporters which will be
useful for his assignment.
According to statistics, Sri Lanka exports tea, rubber products,
spices and garments to Chile and the main imports are canned fish, fish
meal and fresh fruits.
The Ambassador stated that there is vast potential in the Chilean
market for Sri Lankan garments and value added tea and Sri Lanka should
concentrate on these sectors to increase exports.
He said that Chile can also be used as a hub to access the nearby
markets such as Argentina, Peru and even USA.
Being the country with highest number of Free Trade Agreements, Chile
possesses favourable and most attractive economic conditions in the
region. The envoy welcomed the Sri Lankan private sector to invest in
the Chilean market to gain these benefits.
