Troops foil LTTE attempt to infiltrate Nelliadi

In a pre-down attack the Security Forces obstructed an LTTE attempt to infiltrate troops manning an outpost in Mandan, Nelliadi area in Jaffna yesterday.

According to the Media Centre for National Security, a group of LTTE cadres posing as civilians fired at the Security Forces outpost when troops halted them to prove their identification. The incident took place in Mandan at around 12.10 a.m.

“The Security Forces successfully repulsed the LTTE attempt and the Tigers fled the area facing defeat on the face of heavy retaliatory action by troops”, military said.

In a subsequent search operation the Security Forces uncovered an Improvised T56 assault riffle with night vision including a magazine and 11 live ammunitions.
