Lankan film premieres at Odeon, UK for first time

A Sri Lankan film will premiere for the first time ever,at the Odeon.
Leicester Square, England on December 14.
The producer of the film, Julia, Charitha Abeysinghe said he faced a
lot of hardship when producing the film. Most of the shooting of Julia
was done in England, he told a media briefing.
Mass Media and Information Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said it
was encouraging to note young people taking to the film industry.
“I hope more youth will enter the film industry,” the Minister said.
Daduwam Mudalali remanded till October 29

Piyadasa Ratnayaka alias Daduwam Mudalali of Guru Pokuna, Hungama who
was allegedly involved in an illicit financial scam and collected
billions of rupees from people paying a monthly interest of seven per
cent, was remanded till October 29.
The suspect carried out this illicit money scandal for more than 14
years, without getting registered with the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
The suspect was taken into custody after 29 customers lodged complaints
with Tangalle and Hungama Police.
The suspect was produced before Tangalle Magistrate Bandula
Hiriburegama, who remanded the suspect till October 29. Tangalle police
produced the suspect before Courts. Attorneys-at-law Siri Andrahennedi,
Ranjith Wijayasinghe, Vidur Weerakone and Krishantha Punchihewa appeared
for the suspects.
In-service training work-shop
Eureka International School, Kiribathgoda have organised a training
workshop for pre-school teachers to improve their knowledge and also to
give them a training.
This workshop will be held in the school main hall on October 27 from
8.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.

Three youth shot dead in their sleep

Three youth were shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Monday midnight
at their rented house in Arasadithivu, Kokkadicholai.
Police Spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekera said a group of contractors
engaged in land cutting were targeted by unknown gunmen in Arasadithivu.
“Three youth who went to bed after a long day’s hard work were shot dead
in their sleep on Monday midnight,” he added.
“The contractors had been working in the area for six years in land
cutting construction. The victims had rented a house where they were
working and they were asleep with doors open at the time of shooting,”
SSP Gunasekera told the Daily News.
The victims had been identified as H.D.S. Pushpakumara, 26, resident
of Mathugama, B.L. Pethum Priyadarshana, 20, resident of Pannala and
Roshan.
The Kokkadicholai Police are conducting the investigations.
